OUR STORY
An independent group formed in 1985
Likeminded nature lovers in Peterborough decided to form an independent organisation, focussed on fulfilling a major role in sustaining natural spaces through habitat management.
Habitat degradation is one of the biggest threats to
biodiversity loss.
Over the years, we have formed close working links with The Wildlife Trust BCN, English Nature, Forest Enterprise and Peterborough City Council. These connections have allowed us to help on countless significant projects.
Our vital work usually consists of the maintenance of wildlife habitats by coppicing or scrub control.
During the spring and summer months, this sort of work is often not possible, so we have learned a variety of other less seasonally sensitive skills. As well as this, our close links with other local conservation organisations means that there are plenty of ways to help nature- whether it's surveying species or building a drystone wall.
We have lots of members with an incredible knowledge of British nature.
They're more than happy to share their wisdom. Many of our members are also active volunteers for other Peterborough conservation charities, providing an interesting opportunity to learn more about what's going on in the city's green spaces. If you're interested in learning more about nature or how you can help conserve it, come to one of our events and say hello!
ABOUT
It's not all work and no play! We all enjoy ourselves. Everyone works at their own pace, taking a break whenever they feel like it and the atmosphere is always relaxed and friendly. We often sit together to sip our tea and munch on sandwiches, catching up on life and sunshine.
You can turn up at any event that grabs your attention, with no commitments or expectation. We would advise you to contact us first to check that the work day hasn’t been postponed or cancelled. Tools can be provided but please do get in touch, that way we'll know how many loppers and saws to bring!
